Biography

Jonas Friedman is a diverse and eclectic musician who began his career as a music producer, writing songs and recording records for rock bands, pop and hip hop artists in the mid-200's. Over time his passion to work in film and television led to him writing on several notable television franchises and scoring for large orchestras on blockbuster feature films for multiple academy award winning producers. He is a self-taught, multi-instrumentalist playing keyboards, guitars, bass, guitarviol, drums and countless custom made string instruments. This passion for blending live performances with his own contemporary brand of sound design has given Jonas a unique and increasingly in demand voice that can be heard on several notable projects.

Some of Jonas's most notable credits include working with renowned composer Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL). Jonas was hired by Tom to help oversee the music production as well as write and program music on the James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez 3D action adventure Alita: Battle Angel, and the Peter Jackson-produced film Mortal Engines. Additionally Jonas scored the Channel 4 mini series Chimerica with Holkenborg, in addition to an episode of Love, Death & Robots on Netflix.

In 2020 Jonas co-scored Fox Televisions A.I. thriller entitled NEXT with four time Emmy winning composer Sean Callery. Additionally Jonas wrote music with Callery on Liam Neeson's action-thriller The Marksman which debut as the #1 movie in America. He also contributed music to Nat Geo's The Hot Zone, Marvel's The Inhuman's and CBS's Bull.

As a key collaborator with famed X-Files composer Mark Snow, Jonas recently wrote additional music on Marvel's latest X-Men spinoff entitled The New Mutants. He also worked with Snow on FOX’s two season revival (Seasons 10 & 11) of their smash hit television series The X-Files.

As a solo artist Jonas has begun writing and releasing albums that experiment with new cinematic blends of sound design and tradition instruments. His first release, Divide, will be released this fall on all available music streaming platforms including iTunes & Spotfiy.

As Jonas continues to expand his already diversified portfolio, his mastery of studio technology and passion for live musicianship drive his love of finding new ways to communicate musically in the modern world of storytelling.

The Evolving Composer

Every musician has a story. The Evolving Composer is a personal labor of love I've created to share and document the lessons I've learned from my personal evolution as a music artist thus far. It is a free online series that I hope composers, musicians or music producers of diverse genres, at any point in their career will be able to use as an informative resource for creative production, writing techniques, or insights into the physical and psychological demands of being a modern composer.
